Lovit Granule Anilyte+C – effect on broiler performance during heat stress
High temperatures often reduce poultry performance. The combination of vitamin C, star anise oil and electrolytes is a novel way to counteract the negative consequences of heat stress in poultry. Lovit Granule Anilyte+C showed a positive effect on performance parameters and vitality in broilers during heat stress.
Heat stress is a common issue in poultry production which negatively affects egg production and quality, growth as well as liveability. Heat stress occurs when the heat produced by the chickens’ body cannot be dissipated to the environment. In consequence, poultry behaviour during heat stress includes measures to avoid heat production such as minimising body movement, reducing feed intake, suspended wings and panting. Panting carries the risk of alkalosis, which inhibits growth, and which can become life threatening. The body also loses water and electrolytes. A further consequence of heat stress is an increased mortality in the flock. At cellular level, heat stress leads to tissue damage through oxidative stress.
To neutralise the negative consequences of heat stress, antioxidants and electrolytes can be supplemented. Lovit Granule Anilyte+C is a granulate containing versatile star anise oil, antioxidative vitamin C and electrolytes. In order to verify the effect of this product on broiler performance and vitality, a trial was conducted in the UK.
